WHAT is AVID?
AVID is a proven system that prepares students with a 2.0 to 3.5 GPA for college, career, and military success by teaching them the critical habits needed to excel in rigorous coursework.

What AVID Brings to Our Students:
  • Whole School: Teachers use AVID organization, note-taking, reading, and writing strategies that increase critical thinking and academic rigor.
  • 9th Grade Academy: Staff actively use AVID organizational strategies, structured content folders, time management planners, and focused note-taking to help our freshmen transition to high school.
  • The AVID Elective: Students build cohort relationships, develop study habits, strengthen academic processing, and receive college tours and college application support.

Want to Join the Program?
  • Who it's for: Students in the academic middle who have the determination to work hard, challenge themselves, and prepare for their future post-secondary goals.
  • Next Steps: Watch for applications coming out at the end of the 1st quarter for students interested in joining the AVID elective at the start of the Spring Semester!

Agenda
  • We will discuss general school updates and School Improvement Plan goals.
  • Parents have requested a discussion of the football season and classification considerations. 
  • We will end the meeting with parents providing considerations for the next meeting. 
 

AIM For 90: Attendance Matters

Bison Nation,
Huge shoutout to our Sophomores for taking the crown this week and leading the Herd at 90.67%! 

As a school, we are sitting right on the edge at 89.84%. Every period counts; every Bison matters. Let’s rally this week, show up for each other, and push every grade level over that 90% mark.

Athletic and Activities Calendar

Congratulations to our South High Tennis team on an incredible showing at Regionals!

Special honors go to Eliza Moore for taking 2nd place in #2 Singles and Rio Barr for finishing 3rd in #1 Singles, with both earning Regional All-Conference honors. 

Backed by a 4th-place finish from the girls' squad, our Bison are officially heading to the State Championships this weekend!
 

Last Week to Join the Homecoming Parade

Dear Community Partner,
This year, South High School is trading hallway decorating for the parade! We are channeling our campus energy into building floats and creating one massive community celebration.

Our 2026 Homecoming theme is The Greatest HoCo on Earth (Circus-themed)! Whether you represent a local business, youth organization, non-profit, or civic group, we invite you to decorate a vehicle, build a float, or march with us alongside our Bison students, staff, and families.

Event Logistics:
  • Date: Friday, October 2, 2026
  • Time: 2:00 PM – 2:45 PM (Vehicle lineup begins at 1:30 PM; parade steps off at 2:10 PM)
  • Staging Location: South High School West Parking Lot
  • Parade Route: Departs SHS along Cribbon Ave, turns right on Dey Ave, right on W. Jefferson Rd, right onto Snyder Ave, and returns through the roundabout to SHS.
  • Entry Deadline: Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 5:00 PM
Key Participant Reminders:
  • Sign-Up Required: Each driver/vehicle must complete a registration form to reserve an assigned staging spot (especially organizations bringing multiple vehicles).
  • Safety First: Vehicles must maintain 5–10 mph, and candy/handouts must be gently tossed toward the ground (no overhand throwing) to keep spectators safe.
  • Campus Rules: School rules apply across the entire route—no tobacco, vaping, or pets permitted, and please help keep our neighborhoods clean by securing all decorations.
